Patrick Hankey, PhD, wanted to turn his home into a showcase for energy efficiency.  He contacted us with the desire to create a unique patio shade structure that incorporated contemporary design with a photovoltaic array.

 

Dr. Hankey loved the light, floaty look of fabric shade sails, but also the industrial aesthetic of cor-ten steel.  The challenge: design a structure in heavy-gauge steel that "floats", and supports a photovoltaic array sufficient for powering his home.

 

This design was such a success that it garnered us the 2007 San Diego Home/Garden Magazines Home of the Year - Green Award!
